Texas is the second largest state in the United States, and it’s home to almost 30 million people. I’ve lived in Texas my entire life, and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Texas is well-known for many reasons, but not everything you hear is true.

Here are a few of the most common myths about the Lone Star State.

Myth 1) Everyone Wears Cowboy Hats and Boots

One of the biggest myths about Texas is that everyone dresses like a cowboy. While it’s true that you will find more cowboys in Texas compared to most places, the vast majority of people do not wear cowboy hats, boots, or belt buckles.

Myth 2) The Weather is Always Hot

Another misconception is that Texas is extremely hot all of the time. July and August may feel like living in hell, but it can get very cold in the winter. Sometimes it will snow one or two times a year where I live.

Myth 3) Most People Own a Ranch

You can find a lot of ranches in Texas, but most people either live in the city or own a few acres of land in the country. Texas is also home to quite a few large cities, such as Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin.

Myth 4) Texas is Mostly Desert

Some people might be under the false impression that Texas is mainly desert due to all of the Western movies. However, Texas is home to a variety of landscapes in different parts of the state. I live in East Texas, and it’s home to many pine trees.
