Orangutans are one of the most interesting species in the primate world with their distinctive reddish-brown hair and intelligent eyes. You can often find orangutans living in the rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia. Experts estimate that around 50,000–65,000 orangutans are living in the wild.
Here are a few interesting facts about orangutans. (btw, that’s a really strange word to spell!)
1) High-Flying Animals
Orangutans have impressively long arms that are often longer than their bodies. Such a unique build allows them to glide through the canopy with ease. These animals are well-adapted to using their hands and feet to grip and swing from branch to branch.
2) Preference for Solitude
These great apes are known for their solitary nature. Adult males are quite private, maintaining territories they announce with deep, resonant calls that echo through the forest. Females are a bit more social, often seen with their offspring or interacting with other females and their young.
