The Chupacabra is another famous cryptid creature that always seems to lurk in the shadows. Sightings of these creatures started in the mid-1990s in Puerto Rico and soon spread to other countries in the Americas and even Texas.

Chupacabra means “goat sucker” in Spanish, and it’s believed that this creature preys on livestock, leaving behind lifeless animals with distinct puncture wounds and drained of blood.

Origin Story of the Chupacabra

The legend of the Chupacabra was born in Puerto Rico in the mid-1990s due to unusual livestock deaths.

Descriptions vary widely, with some describing it as a reptile-like being with scaly greenish-gray skin and sharp spines running down its back.

Others describe it more like a strange hairless wild dog with a pronounced spinal ridge. Either way, it’s a creature that you most likely don’t want to encounter after dark.
