Knowing how to negotiate with new clients is a crucial skill for freelance writers. Unfortunately, negotiating rates can feel intimidating at times, especially if you don’t have a lot of experience. Keeping a few tips in mind can help you avoid common mistakes that are all too easy to make. I’ve also been guilty of making some of these missteps early in my career, but hopefully, you can learn from my mistakes.

Many freelance writers tend to undervalue their services, especially those new to the field. Offering a cheap rate may give you an edge in landing a new client, but it also puts you at a significant disadvantage if you are trying to make a full-time living freelancing. Researching market rates for your skill level and writing niche can help you choose a fair price range.
