Building a portfolio is a key step for any freelance writer looking to attract new clients. A portfolio is one of the best ways to show off your writing abilities. Taking the extra time to invest in building your portfolio can pay off in the long term, and it doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or an experienced writer.

Here are some tips for creating a portfolio that highlights your unique skills.

Choose the Right Platform

The first step is to decide where you’ll host your portfolio. Some writers go for personal websites using platforms like WordPress or Squarespace because of the customization and control. Others prefer portfolio-specific platforms like Journo Portfolio. Medium is also an excellent way to showcase your articles.

Collect Your Best Work

Your portfolio should feature your best pieces while also demonstrating your knowledge of different topics. If you’re new to freelance writing and lack published work, write samples specifically for your portfolio. Include various styles and subjects, as this allows potential clients to see your entire skill set.
