I believe it’s both. The earnings per read are based on the activity level of the reader but the earnings are much lower the last few days and that’s because I think Medium changed the earning calculations.

Sometimes, this happens for a few days and it goes back to normal. Nothing ever stays the same for long here.

Also, I believe readers have higher earnings at the beginning of their membership. It doesn’t change month to month.
