I keep it simple by investing in mutual funds or exchanged-traded funds. Both include a large number of stocks and it's much less risky than investing in an individual company.

Also, you never lose money on an investment until you sell it. Most of the time it's best to ride it out because the good times will usually outweigh the bad.
