I'm not sure if you know this, but you won't get paid for the comments until someone stays on your article for 30 seconds, so that might be why it didn't pay much.

If I were you, I would write short-form but time your articles before you publish them to make sure they at least fall in the 50 second to minute range and it will help your read ratio. My read ratio is usually 65-75%.
