The way I avoid this is I try to find writers I enjoy and I continue to read and support them whenever I get the chance.
I can’t rely on Medium’s recommendations, so I usually stick with whoever I’m following and I still search for new writers.
I never made much under the old system, but my writing also wasn’t that great, so it’s hard to judge.
Medium seems to be more of a social media platform and you have to build relationships with your audience if you want to succeed.
Just publishing without spending even more time reading isn’t going to work like it used to with all of the “superstar” writers that made $5k-$10k a month a few years ago.
That’s just my two cents. (Literally, you probably made two cents!)
