They are more like professional athletes, and the transfer portal is similar to free agency now.

I think the issue with forming minor leagues, especially for football, is the lack of tradition.

Everyone recognizes the brand of all the major universities, and they have grown up being fans for their entire life.

Also, the same amount of money isn't available in minor leagues. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that minor league baseball players were barely making enough to cover their basic expenses.

I do think limiting transfers would help because some of these players are switching schools every year.
